most easy is to use check_snmp_process to see if PEN is running
other option is to check with a NRPE plugin that also reads the statistics of the pen process to get more info
check_snmp_process is now set to check pen with mem and cpu stats

pen is obsoleted with the iLeidne concept. So closing (re open it if you want)
