How fast is a connection via the Wireless Leiden network?

There is a distinction between the velocity on the local Wireless Leiden network and the velocity when using the Internet. The users of Wireless Leiden connect to the network using the so called 802.11b protocol, which nominal bandwith is 11 Mpbs, the nett data velocity will be 4 to 5 Mbps maximum to the access point.

The bandwith to other parts of the network, via the interlinks between the nodes, depends strongly on the data traffic (number of users), the number of hops and the occurrence of interference. For the experienced Internet bandwith there is an additional limitation of the gateway (proxy) internet connection and the number of users of that same connection.
