Mayor of Leiden shows his interest for voor Wireless Leiden

The Mayor of Leiden (Mr. Lenferink) has shown his support for the work of the Foundation Wireless Leiden. He has asked to be updated by some volunteers of the foundation.

This has resulted in several contacts with the municipality of Leiden. Leiden is specially interested in coverage on street level, for instance with emphasis on specific locations and groups: (Singelpark, shopping public, water recreation, parking areas, students etc.). Leiden is prepared to help financially with the realization of a more complete coverage on street level in the center of Leiden.

Second life for node Burcht

The node on the "tuinhuis" of the Burcht has not been used by Wireless Leiden for quite some time. Now some technical modifications have been made, so that the node can be used again under the current technical IRIS standard of Wireless Leiden, and the node provides coverage again around the Burcht.
The access points of Burcht and Stadhuis (Town Hall) have been connected in such a way, that users do not have to log in on the other node when they walk from Burcht to Stadhuis (or vv), but stay connected.

Sitesurvey at Heineken brewery

Preparatory work on a network node at the Heineken Brewery at Zoeterwoude Rijndijk has started with a sitesurvey at the highest point: a raw materials silo. The view was rather foggy at the time of the visit, but the location is very safe and will be perfect for connecting the parts of the network at Leiden, Hoogmade/Woubrugge, Zoeterwoude and Alphen. The necessary preparations are expected to take a couple of months.
